CURRENT WORLD EVENTS AND BREAKING NEWS 13 Imprisoned Eritrean Christians Freed After Letter-Writing Campaign 8/15/2023 — Eritrea (Mission Network News) Sometimes it just takes a letter, fax, or email to make a difference! Thirteen Eritrean Christians have been released from prison just six days after The Voice of the Martyrs USA (VOM) launched a letter-writing campaign. The VOM campaign was to raise awareness for two Eritrean pastors wrongfully imprisoned for 7,000 days. Sadly, the two pastors have not been released yet. In Algeria, pastors used to teach believers that “this building is your church,” says Youssef*, a Protestant Christian leader who partners with Operation Mobilization USA. “A lot of the leaders focused on [growing] their own kingdom” with big and beautiful church buildings, he continues. The Nigerian kidnappers are now demanding $70,000 USD ransom for the two men. These two men, originally from Tanzania, are workers and missionaries at St. Luke’s Catholic Church-Gvenda in the Diocese of Minna. Rev. But their journey was cut short when suspected jihadists attacked, killing at least 20 people. It’s a disturbing trend in Burkina Faso. Terror attacks in the West African country have killed over 5,000 people so far this year. That they would know the hope God gives (Ephesians 1:18) and that the Holy Spirit will strengthen them (Ephesians 3:16) • It is the attitude of a heart sincerely seeking Him to which God responds with a blessing (Isaiah 58, Jeremiah 14:12, and 1 Corinthians 8:8) |
